You are an amazing actress, I could watch your shows and movies all the time. In fact I watch a lot of your shows and movies during a week. Keep up your amazing self!
There is nothing embarrassing about them!! It must be very difficult to 'act from home' and it shows your real talent. I know that I would burst out laughing if I were trying to do this...🫢 It is so interesting to get this insight into the casting process so thank you for that and also thanks for being so open and sharing these moments with us❤️ btw the rifle clip is so badass hahah!!!
At the beginning of the pandemic, I was finishing my CFC (Swiss diploma) as a professional dancer. Switzerland was never officially in lockdown, yet our schools closed and our bed rooms became dance studios. As graduation approached, entering the professional world meant learning to audition through a screen.
We filmed ourselves alone, in tiny spaces. Letting strangers — sometimes a future director — into the intimacy of our homes. Dancing around furniture, doing classical barre with a chair that might collapse at any moment. Introducing ourselves on camera — in a language we barely know. Awkward, fragile, strangely vulnerable… but also really funny!
Thank you for sharing your experience and your images. It’s comforting, in a strange way, to see how similar this moment was for artists across the world. Your post made me smile at the memory of all those imperfect, ridiculous videos I made ^͜^
Self-tapes give me a new appreciation for the industry. From this moment to the final publication, it takes a lot of time and patience to navigate your audition acting outside of your norm.
I love doing readings with friends as they prepare for a self-tape and I’m so blown away every time, in hopes that the journey continues for them and the character they want to portray.
These did make me giggle but I also saw the potential that could come, and that’s a special skill in itself.
Thank you so much Sasha for sharing your talent and beautiful light and for making me smile and laugh on a really really hard day. Life is so hard lately but I’m so grateful for you and your light and love. I love you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
OMG... I recall you talking about the self-tape audition in your Convos & Coffee with John Frank Levey, and I think again with Hilary Shor... But for the non-actors like us, it is hard to even fathom what that really means, and this video really grounded me!
And they are a testament of how things can look when taken as a single snipet out of context LOL!
Needless to say you are brilliant, and despite not having the context, what strikes me the most is how we really can see different people every few seconds there in the video... You completely rock it!!
Ok, I am sorry. I laughed out loud. You are brave, Sasha, putting this out there but more brave to get in front of a camera or audience and do what you do brilliantly, I should add. You couldn’t pay me enough or anything. lol lol I remember the first time I heard my voice on a tape recorder (yes, THAT long ago.) It was the day I became aware I sounded like a two pack a day truck driver. lol
Seriously, your sentiment that some semblance of civil society return is the message that needs to get out in the world. We have to live it. Let us pray. _()_ Monica ☮️
You my dear are a fantastic actress, yes your self tapes are funny also at the same time you are playing the part.
I also miss in-person auditions. 😭 Thanks for sharing your side of things!
